Uisge beatha or usquebaugh are two different spellings of the old Gaelic term for "water of life." This, to English speaking people, sounded like "uishgi" and over time was corrupted to "whisky."

Distillation Education

On Wednesday April 20, 2011, Matt the diplomat from Maker's Mark led a spirited discussion of all things good from Kentucky. We're pretty sure this included things other than the fine sippin' whiskey made in the state but it was hard to remember after trying some of the more notable potables. There was some music, cornbread, and fried chicken also involved. All-in-all it was a pleasant visit to America and we didn't even have to pass through customs.
